This animation was created for UCLA's Motion studio. The assignment was to create a short animation that would be projected onto three walls simultaneously.
Joyride is a short animation experience in which the viewer is virtually inside a car going on a road trip. As the viewer drives along the California coast, daydreams of the southern and northern areas of the state dance and parallel each other on the car's side windows.
The inspiration for this project came from my personal life. While taking this course, my family was taking our first steps towards moving from San Diego to The Bay Area. Whenever I thought about the move, I constantly found myself comparing the two areas. I was comparing everything, such as architecture, food, entertainment, and weather. On this digital road trip, I take the viewer with me and immerse them in my thought process. The center screen projects a video of me "driving up to The Bay." Thus, as I am driving, you can see my fantasies of me comparing San Diego (left screen) to The Bay Area (right screen). My dogs are animated throughout the video, acting as symbols of my family and I living and enjoying the different areas. Although change can be scary, I strived to make this project (and my mindset on moving) as positive as I could. I was not moving--I was going on an adventure.
