Paper Sculpture & Projection Mapping
For our group project in UCLA's Motion Studio, two or more people would create a small projection mapping project using a small, white paper sculpture and After Effects. My partner made the sculpture, I created the animation, and we tackled projection mapping together.
My partner was inspired by Red Envelope Lanterns that are created by glueing the corners of the envelopes together. When my partner created our sculpture, seeing the lantern in plain white reminded me of a brown widow spider egg. The different things my partner and I saw in the sculpture (based off of our different backgrounds) was the inspiration for our project.
The animation begins with red envelopes. The flowers in the envelopes design attract lady bugs (acting as the transit between my partner and I's ideas), which later fly into ant holes (ants were chosen over spiders, in the hopes of being more appealing), the ants scatter on the sculpture and return to their holes before the animation ends and loops continuously.
